I'm now in the middle of reading this:
As many others have said, it picks up quite a bit in the middle, but I've had no complaints. Having read far too much 1800's British literature in my time, I appreciated her tweaking of the genre.
Sights in San Francisco:
A man walking his bright, white parrot.
The old, Mexican busker in the Bart station chatting on his cell phone while idly strumming his guitar.
Finally walking across the Golden Gate Bridge on a spectacular day.
What's your middle name? Is there a story or history behind it?
Janet. Named after a woman on my mother's side of the family. This woman was visiting her husband, who'd been captured by the British during the Revolutionary War, when she overheard the plans to attack her village the next day. She rode back and warned them so they were prepared to fight. I think the villagers won.
This Book: An interesting and surprisingly entertaining (well, apart from the descriptions of child labor and lung ailments) history of coal.
This scarf: A pattern from knitty.com. This is what happens when I accidentally (no, really!) buy a $20 skein of yarn... make something for Mom!
I'm also trying to figure out how to use this site. Ooo, nifty buttons... no wait! That's not what I meant to have happen! Argh, how do I make it stop?
